Differentiation

Park Hill Elementary is fortunate to have a team of dedicated teachers who have been trained in differentiation.

To define differentiation, think of a one-room schoolhouse.  The students’ needs in the one-room schoolhouse were met based upon their varying skill levels.

Today to facilitate differentiation, teachers are aware of who, what, how and where:  whom they teach (their students), what they teach (the content), how they teach (the methods of instruction), and where they teach (the classroom).

Teachers (1) assess the learning needs of their students, (2) determine their students’ readiness levels, (3) group and regroup their students, and (4) teach and enrich the content in multiple ways based upon their students’ mastery of skills.
